But carrying hospitality to a naïve extreme was not the worst of Milly’s habits. The worst was her propensity to stray. The instant her brother Zip was not watching, Milly somehow floated into the neighbor’s yard.

The neighboring Humans all already know her.

The plastic surgeon was quick to install her back home.

The banker had two small kids who liked to pull long Spaniel ears, but Milly claimed that was “friendship,” that the children were “only playing.”

The latest in Milly’s streak of girlfriends was a young coyote adolescent, almost a pup. Curious, free-spirited and full of joy, the pup coyote persuaded Milly to explore the world.

“Think outside your yard,” were her exact words. The particular exploration that the coyote touted, led away from all Human yards, down into the ravine, all the way to where Sneaky Creek flowed noisily under the Bridge.

According to Pup Coyote, the water noise under the bridge was water-music.

“Music, Milly, tinkling music!” enthused Pup Coyote, “You have to be tuned in to hear! It is a real concert. My older brothers taught me to appreciate it. They are extremely cultured!”

Milly did not want to seem uncultured, and agreed to attend the concert.

“My brothers were planning to come too,” said Coyote Pup, “would that be OK?”
